Designer Russell Scott and the Sewing Arts Center

Sewing Arts Center

When Russell grew up, boys neither sewed nor played piano nor danced. So, at his first opportunity he escaped and majored in dance and went on to dance professionally for 10 years. He also purchased a piano and a sewing machine. His first sewing project was a long sleeved button down shirt with tab collar, plackets and buttonholes. The fabric was pink with tiny blue flowers and he wore it everywhere!

His costume career blossomed and his quest for the perfect sewing machine led to the purchase of a small mom and pop sewing machine dealer that he turned into a fabulous sewing and quilting store in Santa Monica called The Sewing Arts Center.

Russell is a guy who "groups" well. Just enter his shop and you'll feel the creativity. He can pick out the perfect bolt of fabric for you, show you how to drape it or teach you how to quilt it or encourage you to create outside the box. He's an artist, quilter, garment guru and teacher. He's been a frequent guest on the TV show "Simply Quilts" and he thrives on helping to unlock someone's creative potential. What better venue than the Swap? Come create with Russell on December 16!
